The 2026 National Finals Rodeo is widening the nightly payout field and raising the total contestant purse to a record $14,270,736. Beginning with Round 1 on December 3, the top eight finishers in each go-round will receive a check, expanding the previous nightly structure that paid six places.
What changes in 2026
The NFR Committeeās new format adds seventh- and eighth-place checks to all ten go-rounds. The change gives more qualifiers an opportunity to earn money on an individual night while preserving the existing average payout structure for the best cumulative results across the full event.
For fans, the practical effect is simple: more rides and runs can influence the earnings race each night. A result that previously finished just outside the money can now add meaningful dollars to a contestantās Las Vegas total and, potentially, the world-title picture.

The average still rewards ten-round consistency
While the nightly distribution is changing, the average payoff remains at the 2025 level. First in the average earns $94,035.54, with payouts continuing through eighth place. That keeps a clear premium on delivering ten strong roundsānot simply winning one spectacular night.
The combination creates two overlapping races for fans to follow: the immediate battle for each round and the longer contest to stay clean, fast and consistent across the entire Las Vegas run.
When and where
The 2026 NFR runs December 3ā12 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The top 15 contestants in each of the seven standard events will compete across ten consecutive rounds.
