The September 30 saddle bronc standings have delivered the tightest four-way championship cluster among the major season-close leaders. Rusty Wright sits first at $274,686, but Zeke Thurston, Stetson Wright and Ryder Wright are all within $8,958 of the lead.
The season-close top five
| Rank | Saddle bronc rider | Hometown | Earnings |
|---|---|---|---|

| 2 | Zeke Thurston | Big Valley, AB | $270,689 |
| 3 | Stetson Wright | Beaver, UT | $267,030 |
| 4 | Ryder Wright | Beaver, UT | $265,728 |
| 5 | Sage Newman | Melstone, MT | $225,130 |
Every gap inside the top four is small
Rusty Wright leads Thurston by $3,997. Thurston is $3,659 ahead of Stetson Wright, and only $1,302 separates Stetson from Ryder Wright. The cumulative gap from first to fourth is $8,958.
That is less than one 2026 third-place go-round check. With first place in an NFR round paying $33,893.25 and the nightly payout extending through eighth, a single performance can reorder the group.
The Wright family occupies three of four positions
Rusty, Stetson and Ryder give the standings a remarkable family dimension, but Thurston’s position between them prevents the race from becoming an internal Wright contest. Sage Newman, Kade Bruno and Brody Wells form the next group behind the leaders.
Family history can be a useful storyline, yet each NFR ride is judged on its own. Livestock draw, mark-out execution, timing and control determine the score—not a last name or regular-season ranking.
Why saddle bronc rewards rhythm
Often called rodeo’s classic event, saddle bronc riding depends on a synchronized spurring motion from the horse’s shoulders toward the back of the saddle. The rider uses one rein, must avoid touching the horse with the free hand and must complete the eight-second ride.
Because half the score reflects the horse and half reflects the rider, a difficult, high-quality draw can create the chance for a large number when matched by correct technique.
Ten rounds make the standings only the beginning
The season-close order supplies the starting earnings position. Las Vegas then adds ten go-round results and an average race that values consistency. In a top four this close, no one arrives with room to coast.
