Teton Ridge has acquired The Cowboy Channel, The Cowgirl Channel, and streaming platform Cowboy Channel+ from Rural Media Group, solidifying its position as the largest media rights holder of Western sports. The channels collectively reach over 100 million viewers across social, digital, and linear platforms, broadcasting more than 600 live rodeo events annually.
Teton Ridge’s Vision for Growth
Founded in 2019 and led by notable investors Thomas Tull and Mark Walter, Teton Ridge aims to modernize Western sports broadcasting while maintaining its traditional appeal. CEO Deirdre Lester emphasized plans to expand live streaming, on-demand offerings, and storytelling opportunities, alongside advancing distribution through major TV and OTT networks.
Exclusive Rodeo Licensing
With this acquisition, Teton Ridge secures an exclusive licensing agreement with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) through 2028, covering premier events like the National Finals Rodeo, Calgary Stampede, and Cheyenne Frontier Days. The deal also complements Teton Ridge’s existing IP rights for The American Rodeo Contender Series and The American Performance Horseman.
Commitment to Western Lifestyle
Rural Media Group Co-Owner Raquel Gottsch Koehler expressed confidence in Teton Ridge’s ability to preserve and grow the legacy of Western sports. “Teton Ridge shares our deep passion for rodeo and the Western lifestyle, ensuring these channels will continue to honor traditions while reaching new audiences.”
The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed, but Rural Media Group will retain ownership of its flagship network RFD-TV and related platforms.
